Diem perdidi part one – useless NHS and rude recruiters

St GeorgesSo, going out to St George’s for an appointment with my surgeon (no, not a plastic one, unfortunately)…only to find that he has cancelled the appointment without letting me know, I was extremely annoyed, but realised I couldn’t take it out on the receptionist, she looked like she was about to cry and told me I wasn’t the first person showing up that day who hadn’t been informed. Getting the new date confirmed and also being reassured that she would complain to the manager of the appointments nurse (which I happen to know is a right bitch) I still wanted to ram the unicorn statue up the part of the latter where the sun doesn’t shine…

Anyway, then decided to spend my freed up time getting my hair done at my favourite hairdresser’s…luckily he was in and had an available appointment too… Just disappointed that the salon uses a brand of hair colours that I am allergic too, otherwise I would have come there more often.

Coming out of the salon, hair nicely chopped, I found myself having the second rant of the day, at rude recruiters, twice! Firstly, my interview booked for today was postponed without even agreeing a new date, which I am sure they will request with very short notice. Do they think it is dead easy to set aside a day for an interview? Fair enough that it is sellers market at the moment, but you would think a tiny bit of reason and politeness is in order?

Secondly, another one calling from undisclosed number, leaving some rambling message, which I have to replay at least 3 times to write down the phone number, and spend my hard earned cash trying to reach them again…only they are always busy interviewing someone, on the other line or not at their desk…and NO, I don’t want them to call me back, I may be busy. What is wrong with sending and SMS or email? Is that kind of technology too advanced for most agents? My favourite recruiter always sends me an SMS (from his email system), to ask me to call him – including the number – or that he has sent me an email that he hopes I can reply to. Now THAT’S service…and probably the reason why he has earned a good fee placing me twice…

My home is my castle…?

UK houses

Bunny could probably rant non stop about UK housing…what’s the story with poor insulation, single glazing, crap plumbing, carpeted bathrooms…and worst of all…no balconies…? And don’t even get me started on the gardens…

I just think it’s sad that even new houses have to be made so cheaply that they look like they will fall apart any minute…

I still want one of these tho….

Beautiful Norway

NorwayThis weekend Bunny thought Norway was the best place on earth…she even swam in the sea…but now it’s colder again…

Need to book a holiday soon!

But never again with Thomson!!!

Abbor!

PerchSo, back in Norway, and as much as Bunny likes wining and dining, nothing beats pan-fried perch from the Mangen Lake with new potatoes and sour cram sauce…tastes even better as I have caught and cleaned the damned thing myself – believe it or not :D

Xin Nian Kuai Le!

Chinese New YearAn event that CAN be missed is the Chinese New Year’s celebrations in Soho and surrounding area…Bunny was not impressed… We did have a nice meal in a restaurant tho, and got to watch the dragon ;)

Apparently 2009 is the year of the Ox…and Bunny is an Ox (hey, that makes no sense…) The characteristics of the Ox listed do not really seem to fit tho…perhaps that’s why this doesn’t really feel like Bunny’s year either…

Pining for the fjords…

Trafalgar SquareWhile on the theme of things not to missthe lighting of the Norwegian Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square is a great annual tradition…much recommended, not only for Norwegians :D

Almost as much fun as 17. May :D

And while you’re in the mood, why not try a few Scandi-style places to eat…?

Dancing policemen…?

Notting Hill carnivalOne thing not to miss this summer is the carnival on the August bank holiday…apparently it is Europe’s largest street festival, as yes, you can actually see policemen dancing in the streets…they are also very friendly on the day, all providing directions and guidance for the visitors…. Travel on the day is always a bit of a problem, but Travel for London provide great guidance, and the best tip is to wear sensible shoes and bring lots of money for drinks :D Unfortunately (?) most shops are closed during the event, but the pubs are open….

Going north…

BelfastBunny enjoyed a weekend in Ulster with her cousin…it was nice to have a chance to redo the black cab tour of Belfast as it has been a while….but this time around even better, driving up to see Giants Causeway (I suspect it was made from LEGO) and better yet; visiting the Bushmills Distillery and sampling the whiskey :D

Giants Causeway

Random travelling

CheddarBunny has an affinity towards what can only be described as random travelling…like going to Cheddar to check out the cheese (was very good), driving to Dover to see the cliffs (a tad disappointing really)…and of course having a sandwich in Sandwich (not too bad)…I haven’t yet had the chance to watch a match in Rugby tho…and Stonehenge was just weird. Any other suggestions…?

Desert walking…

Gran CanariaGran Canaria is not a place I need to return to, but Bunny loves this pic of her mates in the dunes…
